Collet (Valve Lock)
Very small but essential part of the valve train
Hardened valve collets – the smallest in the valve train, with a hefty responsibility. When the valve train has done a service life, components “wear in” together and form wear patterns on mating surfaces. During assembly if mating parts are reused and not installed in exactly the same position, the wear pattern is likely to change. This can lead to uneven loading in the groove/s which may result in stress fractures especially when new valves are installed with worn collets. Use new collets when installing new valves.
