Turbochargers – Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit
Turbo Chargers by Mahle for Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit.
The exhaust and induction systems are important components for successful engine function. Turbo charging makes good use of spent energy. The turbocharger goes back approx 100 years when a Swiss engineer applied for a design patent.
In operation the heat from the exhaust turbine wheel transfers to the compressor wheel raising the temperature of the intake air. The hot air is then cooled via jacket water aftercooler or ‘air over air’ radiator to produce a denser charge for a more efficient and complete burn. Virtually all heavy duty diesel engines today are turbocharged and aftercooled to assist with performance, fuel efficiency and emission control. Various technologies have unfolded including ‘compound’ and ‘variable geometry’ turbo charging which is being used in many late model applications.
Empower offers a selection of premium grade turbo’s, pulse manifolds, studs/nuts, and jacket water aftercoolers for certain NT & N14 Cummins applications. Exhaust manifolds, studs & nuts for some popular Caterpillar engines.
Turbo’s offered for various makes and engines models:
